CDA was created in 1975 in the Council House of Mulazzo, a small town in Lunigiana giving birth to the wandering book sellers tradition who subsequently became the founding fathers of the Bancarella Prize.
11 distributors enter into partnership to supply publishing houses with service.
The publisher could rely on national book shop covering and on unanimity of relationships, cope with the problems encountered by those who dealt with the market daily by bargaining for conditions with only one person and by meeting all the distributors in the original headquarter in Bologna.
The idea was successful and CDA turned from an association into an incorporated company.
In 1983 the first warehouse was created and no relationship of interdependence with distributors exists so far.
Publishers are promoted and distributed all over Italy only through one contact with CDA; moreover, they are relieved of warehousing and administrative problems.
The organisation has been adjusted according to market requirements without forgetting the personal relation between publishers, distributors, promoters and book sellers, a feature that has always distinguished CDA.
